Private tutor in Baltimore, MD
Education
I have an MBA in accounting from the University of Phoenix, a BSBA in accounting from the University of Pittsburgh and I am a Certified Public Accountant.
Experience
My first experience with financial accounting was in my second year of college. I had planned on declaring myself an Economics major and a Spanish minor. I was in the accounting class to fulfill a requirement; nothing more. Initially I was confused and the principles of accounting made no sense to me. I expected to pass the class, but not with more than a C or a low B. There was a student in the class who had studied accounting previously and I asked him if he would be willing to tutor me. We had a few sessions and finally the subject matter began to make sense and I truly began to like the subject. I was very grateful to my fellow accounting student and after this class I decided to declare an accounting major and this is where my accounting journey began. I spent my next two years in school with some of the best accounting teachers and I also got to experience being a teacher’s assistant for students in their beginning accounting classes. I was able to give back to those students what given to me and I truly enjoyed assisting for the pleasure of watching the students learning a subject I loved, but also because it also taught me even more. I realized that a person learns even more when they pass their knowledge on to others. I am now making an attempt get back to what I love about accounting. I enjoy learning the principles and implementing them, but what I really love is teaching others and helping them see the possibilities about becoming an accountant. Tutoring/teaching is something that has always been a goal of mine. When I was recently asked about the best job I ever help, my answer was my teacher’s assistant job that I barely got paid for. I was able to do something that I love and it made me very happy to do so. In spite of a great career in accounting, my heart truly lies in teaching. I am hoping that tutoring others and helping others find their way through all of the debits and credits will allow me to finally reach my ultimate goal of being a teacher. I would love to assist students who just need a little extra one on one help to get them over that hump and to have that light bulb come on. For the past 15+ years I have been on a bit of a career detour. I spent 3 years as an auditor at Deloitte & Touche, 8 years as a senior analyst/accountant at Magellan Health Services, 3 years as a senior accountant at United Healthcare and I was a senior accountant at Direct Energy Solar. Currently, I offer accounting tutoring through other companies and have logged over 40 hours. I have definitely learned a great deal and have enhanced my accounting skills. In the past few years I was able to complete the process of obtaining my CPA and I am proud of my career. Getting the CPA was something that I was very proud of because after leaving public accounting the need for it wasn’t really there. This was a personal goal and I was successful. If you are looking for someone who is very dedicated to the field of accounting and gets enjoyment in assisting others in their understanding of a subject I love, please contact me. I hope to learn what makes each student unique in their understanding and be able to make a positive impact on their accounting future. I can be as flexible as needed and I will try to definitely tailor a learning plan to fit each student’s learning style. I look forward to working with you.
