Experience
As a tutor, I help students reach their goals and, just as importantly, I help them feel good during the process. When I was young, my stepdad would "help" me with my math homework, and it always ended badly with him yelling at me and me feeling shame. I did excel in the arts, but for years I believed I was stupid because I couldn't grasp concepts quickly. Thankfully, when I was in high school I had teachers who focused on increasing my self-esteem along with teaching the subject matter. I know now that asking questions and receiving help are basic needs. I find gratification in helping a student cultivate interest in subjects they find challenging. I stand up and cheer when a student gets it! I am very grateful for lots of work and the living I have done abroad. I have stood at the gates of Kensington Palace, walked the ruins of Tulum, Mexico, climbed up Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica, and observed the stalactites and stalagmites in ancient caves in Bermuda. My explorations of global cultures, my teaching experience, and artful teaching tools from my experience in the performing arts create fun and engaging geography tutoring sessions. Let's get started!
