Experience

I earned a B.S. in Elementary Education, with a mathematics minor, from Baltimore, Maryland-based Towson University. At present, I'm working towards obtaining a linguistics degree, and I ultimately want to teach ESL learners. While pursing a degree in linguistics, I'm also working in the capacity of a fourth grade teacher. Not only am I working with young children, but some of them are special needs students who require individual in-class assistance. In terms of specific tutoring experience, I have mostly worked with elementary subjects as well as middle school and high school mathematics. In my private practice, I've tutored students in algebra for north of two years. I'm certified to provide tutoring services in English, elementary reading, geometry, middle school algebra, elementary mathematics, grammar, science, writing, and social studies. My tutoring and teaching system incorporates what is known as a gradual release methodology. I usually model the right answer for the person I'm tutoring so that he or she can observe what I'm doing. After that, I guide the student through the process of mimicking what I previously did. By then, the student will be able to work independently while I offer an assessment of his or her progress after the student is done. I'm confident that this process helps to instill a sense of confidence in the student. In my spare time, I like to go to the beach, visit other countries to immerse myself in different cultures, read, dance, sing, play softball and kickball, and hike.
