Experience
I am a classroom teacher, and I currently teach 7th grade language arts. I teach one class to students who are gifted and talented and another to students at a standard learning level. I earned my bachelor's degree in English education with a concentration on Philosophy at Towson University. I have extensive experience tutoring one-on-one as well, and I have worked with students in elementary, middle, and high school. The elementary school students I tutored were part of a program called Reading Partners at Westport Elementary school. I tutored middle school students with the Tracie Marcus program. I worked with high school students when participating in the AVID program.Since I have taught students of all ages and varying ability levels, I have learned many teaching techniques. When I tutor, I use the technique that works best with the individual student's learning style. I can work scaffolding, visual tools, and enrichment reading, to name just a few, into the lessons of students who learn best with those tools. I also have extensive experience preparing students for standardized tests, and I have helped many students prepare for the PARCC and MSA tests now required in Maryland schools. While I tutor a variety of courses, my personal passions are teaching rhetoric, literature, and English courses. When not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy playing a good game of tennis, reading, running, and playing card games.
