Experience
Here's a little bit about me: I live in the Baltimore/Howard County Area and work as a Research Fellow at NIH. I have a B.S. in Exercise Physiology/Chemistry from Salisbury University (2012) and will be enrolling into an MD/PhD program Fall 2015. My Experience teaching In undergrad I worked for 3 years as an undegraduate tutor and 2 years as a supplemental instructor. As a supplemental instructor I created lesson plans addressing the most difficult course material and lead group study sessions for previously mastered courses to help students improve note taking, test taking, textbook reading, and problem solving abilities for Anatomy & Physiology, Gen. Chem, Organic Chem, Cell Biology and Sports Nutrition. As a tutor I provided the similar assistance on a one-on-one basis for Anatomy and Physiology I/II, Pathophysiology, Cell Biology, Molecular Genetics, Inorganic Chemistry I/II, Organic Chemistry I/II, Nutrition Health and Human Performance, and Exercise Physiology. I have a great deal of experience working with students of different learning styles and can adapt well to yours. My Philosophy Because science( whether it be chemistry, cell biology, or otherwise, can be overwhelming) I like to break topics down to tell a story. The body is a wonderful machine and learning subject matter in relation to how it functions in the human physiology will not only help you better understand the material but also better understand how to apply it. In my sessions I like to have students talk out scenarios, draw their own diagrams, and learn how to utilize their text so that they leave sessions learning the material in their own manner and with an understanding of how to apply their learning style to other subjects. I also draw upon a wealth of textbooks, notes, diagrams, slides, study sheets, practice sets and lesson plans from the courses I tutored/taught while in undergrad. I prefer to work with high school and college aged students. In addition to subject matter, I excel at helping students with study skills and improving organization. Working at the Center for Student Achievement at Salisbury University I am accustomed to building this skill work into tutoring/study sessions. About Me and My Hours I currently work at the National Institute on Aging in Baltimore so I am local and flexible with my hours. I am available most evenings and weekends. See my cancellation policy below. Let's Get Going! I'm a friendly guy with a lot of energy. The tutor student relationship is crucial to having a successful learning environment. I like to keep the environment relaxed, yet I demand private study and some productive work ethic both in and out of the tutoring session. I am not there to do your homework, I'm there to help you through the concepts so you can do the homework yourself. After all, I won't be there when you take the test!
