I have a bachelor's degree from UConn and hold a master's degree in secondary education from Syracuse. By day, I work as a certified teacher, and I began tutoring about 12 months ago with Hillside. Hillside provides tutoring after the school day for public school students in the city of Syracuse. I have also worked as tutor in the state of Maryland for students in all middle and high school grades. With my academic background and certification, my areas of specialization are Government, World History, Geography, Economics, and other subjects found in the curriculum for grades seven through 12. My tutoring philosophy is based on three beliefs. First, I help students see that achievement outside of education can give them leverage to succeed in education. Second, I link past events to current ones to create better understanding for what's happening in the world now. Third, I give students a cultural construct to current events to make the learning relevant. Outside of work, I am a sports fan, with an affinity for soccer. Walking my dog, running, and lifting weights keep me active. I have found that staying relaxed and keeping an outlook that is upbeat and positive bring joy to one's life.
