Experience
My teaching experience is wide and diverse. I have taught English composition at several community and four-year colleges over the past 10 years, including Prince George's Community College in Largo, MD and the College of Staten Island in New York. But I have also taught math and science to emotionally disturbed and learning disabled middle school students in the New York City school system. I am also ADD myself, and bring a certain immediacy to my interactions with students in a similar situation. I will work with your student until we find a system that works, if that's what she or he needs. I am an avid student of history, having pursued medieval studies at the Catholic University of America. As a result of that interdisciplinary program, I can also tutor students in theology and Latin. My main passion in life, however, has always been writing. My basic philosophy in teaching composition is to provide my students with a basic toolbox of writing skills—clarity, honesty, grammar, and coherence—along with a select few specialized skills, that they can take with them and use not only in the rest of their academic careers, but for the rest of their lives. Please drop me a line! I would love to get to know you and to walk a ways with you down your academic road.
