Education

I have an undergraduate degree in Management (Business) from the US Air Force Academy, and a master's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from the University of South Alabama. I graduated in the top 10% of my class at both institutions.

Experience

I hold a state teacher certification for teaching secondary mathematics (grades 6-12). In addition, I have a National Board Certification in the area of teaching Adolescent and Young Adulthood Mathematics. I have experience as a military officer (5 years), an actuarial analyst (2 years) and as a certfiied teacher (the last 8 years). I have much skill with mathematics always earning high marks (ACT = 35) and I love working with young people and making math come alive. I have instructed every course in the high school curriculum including AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Statistics, and IB Mathematics.

Hobbies

What is your typical process for working with a new student? I first like to get a sense of where the student is in their math studies. I ask questions about the course, general feelings about math, and specific questions about strengths and deficits. Then I work with the student and/or parents to make a plan to remediate problem areas and build knowledge with guided practice. What types of students have you worked with? I have worked with public and private school students of all ability levels, with and without accomodations. My favorite subject matter to teach are Calculus and Statistics, but I am skilled with all levels of teaching math through the undergraduate level. What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise? Qualifications are great, but try out several tutors and make sure that you find one that you like, can explain the material well, and cares about you as a person.
