Experience
FRENCH I’ve worked with children and youth in different capacities for several years, but discovered my love of tutoring in 2011 while volunteering with an orphanage in Ghana. During this placement, I tutored neglected and abandoned elementary- school aged children in a variety of subjects. As many suffered from improper education, the general goal was to bring the student’s basic reading, writing, and math skills up to grade level. During my stay in Ghana, I also taught beginning French to 5-7th grade students at the local school. Prior to the teaching experience, I had 8 years of French in a classroom setting and studied abroad through a full language immersion program in France. WRITING/ADMISSIONS ESSAYS Since college, I have informally helped aspiring higher education students with their admissions essays. These students have gone on to pursue a variety of programs, including medical school, law school and undergraduate degrees. All of the students I’ve worked with have been accepted (granted, they were all wonderful candidates without their essays). Areas of focus include theme, voice, organization, transitions and effective word choice. PHOTOSHOP/INDESIGN I work with these programs on a daily basis and can help you conquer them quickly. I really do love working with children and youth to improve their academic success, but my favorite aspect of tutoring is watching a student’s confidence soar after mastering a concept.
